While receiving some All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwarts in his residence on Thursday, the Adamawa State Governor, Murtala Nyako, had threatened that he and six other ‘rebel’ Governors may be forced to pitch tent with the APC if the Old PDP doesn’t change its dictatorial ways.
The other aggrieved Governors of the PDP are: Sule Lamido (Jigawa); Rabiu Kwakwanso (Kano); Rotimi Ameachi (Rivers); Babangida Aliyu (Niger); Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara); and Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto).
Responding to the threat, the parent PDP had said the aggrieved Governors may well defect to the APC if they wanted to.
“We want them to remain in the party. We will want to work with them and resolve our issues; but we are in a democracy and in a democracy, membership of a party is a choice freely made”, National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olisa Metuh, was quoted to have told The PUNCH.
Nyako had said: “These are the reasons (injustice and impunity) why we may have to dump the PDP, if they will not change their ways.
“We may definitely be pushed to the warm embrace of the APC because there is so much injustice in the PDP. “
There are strong indications that the seven ‘rebel’ Governors may be making their threat a reality in the days ahead as the PDP continues to seek for peace within its ranks.
