Ondo Monarch to spend Christmas, New Year in police custody

A traditional ruler in Ondo State is to spend the forthcoming Christmas and New Year festivities in prison, as an Akure Magistrates Court today ordered that he, alongside four others, be remanded in Olokuta Prison Custody, Akure for armed robbery, conspiracy and forgery.

Armed with two cut-to-size locally made barrel and other dangerous weapons, Chief Sunday Boboye (aged 40) who doubles as the Ajagun-Ode of Ode Community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State and others allegedly robbed one Mrs Akin Adewale Esther of her property valued at over N1 million on November 6, 2013.

Other accused persons include: Akeem Bakare , Ramoni Ismaila, Akinyele Gbenga and Obadan Gabriel.

They were arraigned on a six-count charge of armed robbery, conspiracy and forgery.

The plea of the accused was not taken.

Property allegedly stolen from the complainant include: Toyota Camry pencil light car, Nokia and Techno handsets, MTN recharge cards, textbooks and cash sum of N88,500.00.

Police Prosecutor, ASP Pelumi Adejuwon asked for adjournment to enable the Investigation Police Officer (IPO) duplicate the case file with the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

In her ruling, Magistrate Margret Kuye ordered that all the accused persons be remanded in Olokuta Prison pending the issuance of legal advice.

She thereafter adjourned the case till January 21, 2014.
