The Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin stopped by
the Wall Street Journal last week to discuss her
latest album.
While celebrating the disc’s success, the 72-year-
old couldn’t help but sound off on a few younger
divas in the industry.
When Nicki Minaj’s name was brought up,
Franklin didn’t have many nice things to say.
She simply replied,
“Hmmm. I’m going to pass on that one.”
But what was much more surprising was her
lack of compliments for Taylor Swift
When asked to say a few words about the
singer, Franklin replied,
“Great gowns, beautiful gowns.”
Gowns?! Just gowns?! We know, Swifties. She
could have said so much more.
When asked about her opinion on Taylor’s
impressive 1989 album sales that topped 1.2
million, she replied; Maybe she could have
mentioned her ability to tackle both country and
pop music perfectly? We could go on and on.
It also didn’t help that the “RESPECT” singer had
much nicer things to say about the two women
before Swift.
When asked about Adele and Alicia
Keys, Franklin shared “good singer, Young
performer, good writer, producer.”
Regardless of one person’s opinion, chances are
Swift won’t be too upset with the news. In fact,
she’s probably just going to “Shake it Off.”
